Chamonix Restaurants

Because Chamonix is a busy resort both during the summer and during the winter there are a lot of restaurants that offer traditional French cuisine, other European cuisine like Italian and Irish; Asian cuisine like Indian, Chinese, Japanese or Thai, Oriental cuisine and Modern cuisine. There are inexpensive restaurants as well as fine dining restaurants. It all depends on your taste and mood in deciding where to have lunch or dinner. Also the majority of the restaurants will take reservations.

A few restaurants where you can enjoy the true traditional French cuisine are La Maison Carrier, La Cabane, L'Impossible, L'Atmosphere, Le Bistrot, Le Panier du Quatre Saison, and Le Sarpe. If you do not want to try the French cuisine or you want to have something different you can try an Italian restaurant like Casa Valerio which is the locals' favorite restaurant. The Asian restaurants are Le Dragon D'or which offers Chinese and Thai specialties, Tigre Tigre which offers Indian specialties and is also known as the curry house, Alan Peru offers Asian as well as Modern cuisine, and Sahara Café which offers Oriental cuisine. Of course there are many more restaurants to choose from and it is always a good idea to ask the locals and other tourists. Most of the locals will send you to Hotel Eden or Le Munchie.

Each restaurant tries to have a unique menu with different culinary delights every season. One can always try something new or eat his or her favorite meal every day. Of course most of the restaurants have nice selections of wine and the staff can recommend the wine that foes best with the meal you order. Also a lot of restaurants offer a wide variety of chesses or dishes with different kinds of cheese.

There is an un-written rule that says that every new place you go you should try at least one of their food specialties. In Chamonix there are several famous dishes to choose from. Of course some of these dishes like Raclette or Fondue Savoyarde or Tartiflette are cheese based dishes. If you are a meat lover and want to cook your meal yourself, you should try braserade for barbeque style meat or pierre-chaud. In terms of drinks, apart for the wine lists where one can try local wines like Apremont, Mondeuse or Chignin, you can also taste the local liqueur called Genepi or the special after drink called Grolle which is hot coffee mixed with alcohol.

In Chamonix you can find restaurants where prices range from inexpensive to affordable and pricey, you can find all kinds of different cuisines that satisfy all the tastes, and you can find cheese based dishes, meat based dishes and even vegetarian dishes. Chamonix also offers the highest restaurant in Europe , Le 3842, and several restaurants that offer spectacular views like Le Panoramic.
