Language and money
The official language is French and the currency is Euro. Major credit cars and travelers checks are accepted in most of the places.

Electricity v
Voltage is 220 and 50Hz. Plugs are standard with two pins.

Telephone
The international prefix for France is +33. If you call from France to another country dial 00 + country code followed by the number. Public phones function with phone cards which are usually cheaper than the phones available at your accommodation.

Working hours
For most of the official businesses the schedule is 9 am to 6 pm from Monday to Friday. However shops, restaurants, clubs and bar stay open for longer periods of time.

Shopping
There is a wide variety of stores from skiing or climbing related items to supermarkets or gourmand food market.

Tipping
If service charges of 15% are on your bill then you do not have to tip or you can tip and extra 2 or 3 %. Most of the people providing services will expect a tip. Taxi drivers usually get tips between 10 and 15 %.

Guest Card
The town offers a Guest Card called Chamonix Mont-Blanc Guest Card. The card gives free bus transportation on a number of buses and routes as well as some routes accessible by SNCF trains. You can also get discounts for different activities, at parking places, museums, and exhibitions.

Sky pass
There are two kinds of passes available: Chamonix Le Pass and The “Mont-Blanc Unlimited” Pass . The prices are different for children, adults and seniors and depend on the number of days you purchase the pass for.
